Developing online supplementary English reading materials for grade X of SMA Negeri 1 Probolinggo / Syamsul Arifin

Abstrak
Key words Online Supplementary Reading Materials. The present study aims at developing online supplementary English reading materials to meet the needs of grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Probolinggo. The developed materials were made to support the existing materials used by the English teachers of SMA Negeri 1 Probolinggo academic year 2012-2013. The study employed a Research and Development (R D) design with five main stages needs analysis materials development experts validation field testing materials (try-out) and final product. To collect the data needed as the basis for developing materials needs analysis was carried out through observation of Standard Competence (SK) and Basic Competence (KD) final test scores. Besides the teachers of English and ICT were interviewed and a set of questionnaire was addressed to grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Probolinggo. The developed materials were evaluated by an expert of subject matter an expert of design and an expert of ICT or information communication technology. The validated product was tried-out to students of Grade X of SMA Negeri 1 Probolinggo and teachers of English. After the try-out the findings comments and suggestions were analyzed to improve the product. The aspect of utility and practicality of the product is considered good therefore the final product can be regarded as appropriate and necessary materials for the students since it really helps them study autonomously. Based on result of the research several suggestions are addressed to the following group of people. First for the English teachers the developed materials can be used as an alternative source because it was developed based on the students needs students interest or reading preference and problems. Second for other teachers they can also use it as a model of the Internet based to develop their instructional materials. Third it is necessary for further researchers who are interested in developing instructional materials for the English subject. It is necessary to select appropriate materials types of exercises and kinds of media in order to meet the students needs. 8195
