Urib Urbiyanto M.S Key Word Sort Waste Management Desa Sehat One of the problems for unclean and unhealthy environment is due to the bad waste management. People tend to be accustomed to littering without considering the effect that will arise in the future. Sometimes the flow of the river (flush) to rice fields and farm are clogged because of the waste accumulation and waste is getting accumulated day by day without necessary advantage to take. Due to the raising problem it was implemented Desa Sehat Program by City and Regency Governments by targeting to the avoidance of waste accumulation making use the waste by cultivating it to become useful product. This study focuses on (1) how the process of sort waste management through Desa Sehat Program goes (2) what obstacles found in the sort waste management and (3) what benefits obtained from the sort waste management. On the other hand the writer also provides some theoretical reviews on the nature of sort waste management and the nature of Desa Sehat Program. In this study there are several steps to cover in the process of sort waste management in order to meet its target (1) socialization (2) implementation (3) monitoring and (4) evaluation. The obstacles found during the study are (1) minimum understanding of the people on the waste grouping (2) backwardness in the participation of implementation team and (3) lack of supporting facilities and infrastructures. The activity of sort waste management is implemented with the target of empowering society especially women. The effort of society empowerment is reflected in the improvement of people s behavior innovation in the cultivation of plastic waste to become handicraft such as table mat and shopping bag in which having sale value and adding revenue and as a side job. It is suggested for Self-Help Group (SHG) to make better preparation and optimize supporting facilities and infrastructures of sort waste management and the more important is to conduct intensive training so that the target will be more feasible and can produce various useful products that have sale value.
