Grammatical errors found in recount texts written by the eight graders of SMP Negeri 4 Malang / Farouq Aji Subroto

Abstrak
This study was conducted to observe analyze and describe the grammatical errors found in recount texts written by the eighth graders of SMP Negeri 4 Malang. Having classified the data the researchers found that there were four kinds of errors in the students writing which are Omission Addition Misformation and Misordering. There were 320 errors found in the students writing and the highest error found was the error of omission. Furthermore it was known that errors mostly appeared to be caused by the interlingual interference in which the students did the direct translation from their colloquial Bahasa Indonesia into English language. Based on the result it is suggested that the English teacher emphasizes more on the grammar topics which are considered a problem for the students based on the error analysis. It is also suggested that English teachers integrate some grammar materials in teaching other skills in order to minimize the possibility of errors made by the students.
