M.Pd (II) Dr. Gunadi Harry Sulistyo M.A. Keywords Interactive Multimedia Guessing Games Teaching Speaking The objective of this research is to develop interactive multimedia-based guessing games for teaching speaking to the eight graders of Junior High School. This research employs the design of research and development (R D) research which consists of research information collecting planning development of preliminary form of the product a preliminary field testing main product revision main field testing operational product revision operational field testing final product revision dissemination and implementation. All the stages were implemented except the implementation of the games to schools since the limitation of time. Then the procedure for developing games proposed by Trueblood Szabo (1974) were used as a design of this research which consists of determining goal of the game developing materials designing a set of rules and procedures to play designing feedback developing challenging situation developing possible variation and evaluating the game concept. The instruments employed to collect data were a checklist at market survey stage and a set of questionnaires at observation expert validation and try-out stages. The data elicited from those instruments were then presented both qualitatively and quantitatively. The research products are a package of application software entitled Interactive Multimedia-Based Guessing Games for Teaching Speaking to the Eight Graders of Junior High School in the form of CD-ROM and a teacher s guidebook. The results of data analysis from validation and try-out stages reveal that the experts of validation teacher and students show positive responses towards the use of games in the teaching of descriptive texts. However some minor revisions should be made by the researcher to improve the quality of the product such as revision on the cover content and display. The activities conducted in the current research lead the researcher to achieve the objective of the research.
