The subjects of this research were 40 students (19 girls and 21 boys) of class 8E. Based on the result of questionnaire and interview that had been gained by the researcher she found some factors that caused low achievement in listening. They were (1) lack of practicing in listening activity (2) less opportunity to have a lot of exposure of group discussing. 12288 12288 12288 12288 This research was conducted through Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was conducted in one cycle. The implementation of the dictogloss technique was carried out in 5 meetings and one meeting for the listening test. Each meeting consisted of four steps (1) preparation (2) dictation (3) reconstruction (4) analysis and correction. The researcher used two kinds of data collection they were qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were obtained from the result of (1) the observation checklist and field notes about activities of the students in teaching and learning process (2) questionnaire about the students response to the implementation of the technique. Quantitative data was obtained from the result of students listening score at the end of implementation. 12288 12288 12288 12288 12288 The result of the research showed that there were (1) improvement of the students in listening comprehension. The mean score in listening test of the students improved. It was from 62.775 in preliminary study to 71.025. It indicated that the dictogloss technique brought positive improvement on students listening comprehension. (2) Improvement of students response. By analyzing the data of questionnaire and observation checklist the researcher found that most of the students had positive response in listening. Based on the finding of the research it is suggested for English teacher to implement dictogloss technique to improve listening comprehension to the students especially in recount text. It is also suggested that dictogloss technique can encourage students to be actively involved in discussion. It theoretically and practically helps students comprehend the spoken text. By group working the students do not mind to the tasks given because they can share the difficulties to their friends. This research is one of the efforts in improving students listening comprehension. There are four stages in dictogloss technique. Those are preparation dictation reconstruction and analysis and correction. In preparation stage the students are introduced unfamiliar words. In this stage the students know the unfamiliar words to familiarize them during listening. In dictation stage the students perform listening activities 1) listening for gist without note taking it forces the students to understand the whole text using their prior knowledge 2) note taking to improve language proficiency of grammar and meaning words by individual note taking. In reconstruction stage the students reconstruct the text in group. The students cooperated to re create the text based on the individual notes. In analysis and correction stage the students compare their text that they write with the original one. The students compare the texts based on content information given. Discovering the difficulties of listening and writing comprehension enhanced listening performance. It is expected that the finding of this research will be used as starting point of the future research on similar problem. It is suggested that to use different text type skills and grades.
