English teachers\' opinion on the implementation of the 2013 English teaching curriculum at State Junior High Schools in Malang / Ajeng Linggra Niuvike

The latest curriculum called the 2013 Curriculum has been implemented in schools in Indonesia as the improvement of the 2006 Curriculum (KTSP). The new curriculum suggests a new insight to the development of education in Indonesia. Students are expected to be religious sociable knowledgeable and skillful through the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum with its four core competencies religious aspect social aspects knowledge and skills. Those competencies require teachers to comprehend the importance of the four competencies so that the teacher can integrate them in their teaching practice. Also teachers have to implement other curriculum reformation written in the Government Act no. 32 year 2013 issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Indonesia. This study investigated WKH_(QJOLVK_WHDFKHUV _opinion on the implementation of the 2013 English teaching curriculum in junior high school level of education in Malang. THDFKHUV _RSLQLRQ including their perceived readiness in teaching English the teaching strategy and the assessment in the 2013 English teaching curriculum were investigated in this study. THDFKHUV _RSLQLRQ_RQ_WKH_curriculum changes their perceived good points of the 2013 English teaching curriculum problems of the 2013 English teaching curriculum and points that should be revised in the 2013 English teaching curriculum were also investigated in this study. The present study employed a survey as the design in which a set of questionnaire was used. The respondents of the study were 50 junior high school English teachers in Malang. The returned questionnaires from the respondents were analyzed E _FRPSXWLQJ_WKH_SHUFHQWDJH_RI_WKH_WHDFKHUV _UHVSRQVH_to summarize their opinion on the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum item by item. The research findings showed that most respondents had a positive opinion about their readiness in teaching English in the 2013 Curriculum they had a positive opinion about the teaching strategy in the 2013 English teaching curriculum they had a positive opinion about the assessment in the 2013 English teaching curriculum and they had a positive opinion about the curriculum changes. The main responses given by most respondents in the open ended items were about the assessment the simpler English material the scientific approach and the facilities and the curricular material.
