Permasalahan yang terjadi seiring perkembangan zaman saat ini yaitu munculnya suatu budaya yang senantiasa merasa kurang dan tidak puas secara terus menerus khususnya bagi mahasiswa. Hal ini terjadi dengan keterlibatan teknologi yang semakin canggih. Keinginan untuk mengikuti gaya hidup modern dan tidak ingin dikatakan ketinggalan zaman akhirnya menyebabkan perilaku konsumtif. Pola perilaku konsumtif ini mengarah pada pemenuhan keinginan bukan kebutuhan. Konsumen seringkali membeli produk bukan karena kegunaan atau manfaatnya akan tetapi lebih untuk nilai simboliknya dalam memenuhi gaya hidup modern. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) pandangan mahasiswa terhadap perilaku konsumtif (2) faktor yang melatarbelakangi perilaku konsumtif dalam memenuhi gaya hidup modern pada mahasiswa Jurusan Hukum dan Kewarganegaraan Universitas Negeri Malang dan (3) bentuk-bentuk perilaku konsumtif dalam memenuhi gaya hidup modern pada mahasiswa Jurusan Hukum dan Kewarganegaraan Universitas Negeri Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian studi kasus yang bersifat deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Jurusan Hukum dan Kewarganegaran yang keseharian di kampus terlihat memiliki perilaku konsumtif hal ini tampak dari penampilannya sedangkan proses analisis data diawali dengan menelaah semua data yang diperoleh baik yang bersumber dari pengamatan wawancara ataupun dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunkan dimulai dari tahap (1) pengumpulan data (2) reduksi data (3) penyajian data dan (4) kesimpulan penarikan atau verifikasi data. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data tersebut diperoleh tiga simpulan sebagai berikut. Pertama pandangan mahasiswa terhadap perilaku konsumtif mahasiswa di Jurusan Hukum dan Kewarganegaraan termasuk dalam mahasiswa yang berperilaku konsumtif sering mengikuti trend terutama mahasiswa putri perilaku tersebut dianggap sebagai cara untuk memberikan kepuasan meskipun disadari memberikan dampak negatif karena terlalu sering membelanjakan uang dan tidak memprioritaskan kebutuhan. Kedua faktor-faktor yang melatarbelakangi perilaku konsumtif pada mahasiswa yaitu tingkat pendidikan pengaruh media komunikasi pengaruh dari lingkungan dan teman pengaruh dari kepribadian serta pengaruh dari status sosial orang tua. Ketiga bentuk-bentuk perilaku konsumtif pada mahasiswa nampak pada pakaian dan aksesoris peralatan kosmetik hiburan dan alat komunikasi. Beberapa saran dari peneliti diajukan kepada beberapa pihak yakni (1) Bagi mahasiswa agar mahasiswa tidak berperilaku konsumtif seyogyanya mahasiswa harus dapat membedakan antara kebutuhan dan bukan kebutuhan. Mahasiswa tidak boleh langsung menerima dan mengikuti kebudayaan baru yang sedang trend tersebut mahasiswa harus dapat mengontrol dirinya sendiri dalam melakukan tindakan. (2) Bagi Jurusan agar mahasiswa di Jurusan Hukum dan Kewarganegaraan tidak berperilaku konsumtif dan dapat hidup sederhana seyogyanya jurusan menetapkan peraturan yang melarang mahasiswa mengenakan pakaian aksesoris dan make up yang berlebihan. (3) Bagi orang tua agar mahasiswa tidak berperilaku konsumtif sebaiknya orang tua memberikan contoh hidup sederhana dan selalu menasehati anak untuk tidak membeli barang-barang yang kurang diperlukan. The problems that occurred with the times today is the emergence of a culture that always feel less and unsatisfied constantly especially for college students. This happened with the complicity of increasingly sophisticated technology. The desire to follow the modern lifestyle and do not want to be called asout of the date it makes consumptive behavior. The pattern of consumptive behavior directed to the fulfillment of desires instead of needs. The consumers often buy products not for the use of the product or the benefit but for the symbolic of value to fulfilla modern lifestyle. This study aimed to describe (1) the students view on consumptive behavior (2) the factors that can be a background of consumptive behavior to fulfill the modern lifestyle in students from the Department of Law and Citizenship of the State University of Malang and (3) the forms of consumptive behavior in fulfilling the modern lifestyle of students in the Department of Law and Citizenship of the State University of Malang. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive case study. The sources of data in this study was students from the Department of Law and Citizenship are seen on the daily on campus have consumptivebehavior it is evident from their appearance whereas the processof data analysis began by examining all the data derived from observation interviews or documentation. The technique of analyzing the data used mainly starting from (1) data collection (2) data reduction (3) the presentation of data and (4) the conclusion collection or data verification. Based on analysis of the data there are three conclusions as follows. First the views of students in consumptive behavior students in the Department of Law and Citizenship included in the students who have consumptive behavior often follow the trend especially for the girls student the behavior is considered as a way to give satisfaction although recognize a negative impact because too often spend money and do not priority of their needs. Second the factors that can be a background of consumptive behavior in students is the level of education the influence of the media communication the influence of the environment and a friend the influence of personality the influence of the social status of the parents. Thirdly forms of consumptive behavior in students appear in the clothes and accessories cosmetics entertainment and communication tools. There are some suggestions from the researcher aimed for college students college department and the parents. The first one (1) for college students they should not being consumtive they have to know the difference between need and want. They should not easily accept and following recent trend also they must selfcontroling theirselves for not being consumtive. Second (2) for thecollege department as the suggestions before for college students the department should apply a regulation for the students they are not allowed or prohibited to use many accessories too much applying make up and wearingfancy clothes in college. The last (3) for the parents they should warn their children for not being consumtive. They have to teach them how to live simply and humble. Also giving advice for them to avoid buying wasting stuff and be wisely when buying something.
