Advisor I Prof. Mohammad Adnan Latief M.A. Ph.D. Advisor II Prof. Dr. Yazid Basthomi M.A Key words young learners second grade kindergarteners material development Some previous researchers have conducted studies on the development of materials for kindergarten students. I noticed that the studies are particularly concerned with the modification of syllabus and development of instructional materials including some pictures songs and games. However I found out that some of the teaching media are not attractive enough for kindergarten students. Most previous studies did not provide an evaluation section for checking students progress in their English learning. Pronunciation section one of the most important parts in early learning of English is not covered. Therefore I was interested in conducting new research to provide better products for English teaching to kindergarten students. The results of the research provided colorful and attractive teaching media (e.g. pictures) as well as pronunciation and evaluation sections. The method used in this research was research and development (R D) following Borg and Gall (2003) s suggestion that consists of needs analysis product development expert validation and first revision try-out and second revision and final product. Two instruments were used for gathering information during needs analysis. The first instrument is questionnaire. The respondents were four teachers responsible for teaching second grade students. The second instrument is interview. The interviews were conducted to collect additional information gained from the questionnaire. The expert validators were experts in teaching EYL book designer and teaching kindergarten. The first revision was done based on the feedback from the experts who filled in validation checklist and gave feedback. The product was tried out twice. The first try out was conducted to the teachers related to the book instructions. The second try out was carried on to the second grade of kindergarteners. The last revision was done based on the result of the product try outs. The results of try out indicated that the developed product is applicable to be used to teach English for the second grade of kindergarten. As the product is used for young learners the language focus of the activities is emphasized on listening and speaking skills with limited part for reading and writing. The product also consists of colorful pictures of certain vocabulary and its meaning in Indonesian and Arabic. Since the schools focus on the students ability to master not only English but also Arabic providing Arabic meaning of the certain vocabulary is expected to help the students to master both languages. Therefore the teachers are suggested to follow the instructions served on the product as well as modify it to suit the learning teaching process. Due to the limitation of time the tryout of the developed product was done on limited chapters. It is recommended therefore that the teachers tryout again to all parts of the product.
