This study explored the effect of Quipper School as a Course Management System (CMS) of English learning on students writing ability across types of essay. The types of essay studied were Comparison Contrast and Classification essays. The students were given exposure to an online learning using Quipper School as a CMS in the essay writing course. To achieve the aim of this study a quasi experimental design was employed. The participants of this study were third semester English Department students of Universitas Negeri Malang who were having essay writing course. There were 25 students in the experimental group and 24 students in the control group. Independent sample t-test was employed to analyze the result of the two posttests since the data fulfilled the statistical assumption. The findings of the study affirmed that the students who were taught writing essay using Quipper School achieved better score than those who were taught without Quipper School the p-value was smaller than .05 (.000
