Pembuatanbioplastikinimemanfaatkanpati (tepungtapioka) dankaragenansebagaibahandasardangliserindenganair sebagaiplastisizer sertananoclaysebagaipenguat.Penelitianinibertujuanuntukmengetahuikarakteristkpenambahannanoclayterhadappenurunan (degradasi) massadanmengetahuikarakteristikpenambahannanoclayterhadaplajupenurunanpanaspadabioplastikbermatrikpatidankaragenan. Penelitianiniberupapenelitianeksperimendenganrancangan one shot case study yaitusuatuobjek yang mendapatpendahuluan kemudiandiuji. Teknikanalisis yang digunakandalampenelitianiniadalahanalisisstatistikdeskriptif. Hasilpenelitian yang diperolehadalahDegradasi thermalpadabioplastikbermatrikpatidankaragenandenganvariasikadarnanoclay 0% (0 00g) 2 5% (0 025g) 5% (0 05g) 7 5% (0 075g) dan 10% (0 10g) terbagimenjadi 5 tahapdekomposisiselama proses pembakaranantarasuhuruangansampaisuhu 1000oC.Dimulaidengantahappertamaberupaterdegradasinyakandungan air tahapkeduaberupaterdegradasinyakandungan volatile tahapketigaberupaproses transisiarang tahapkeempatberupaterdegradasinyakandunganarang dantahap yang kelimaberupaterdegradasinyakandungansisaarang yang dikelilingiolehabu yang terbakarsecaralambat.Penambahannanoclay 10% hasilpengujian thermogravimetric menunjukanketahananpanas yang tinggidikarenakannanoclaydapatmenurunkanlajudegradasi thermal denganmenyisakanmassa yang lebihbanyak sehinggadapatmeningkatkanketahananpanasbiokomposit dikarenakanterdapatstruktureksfoliasidan immiscible padabiokomposit. Berdasarkanhasilpenelitian disarankanpenelitianselanjutnyauntukdilakukan penelitian lanjutan dengan variasikonsentrasipati (tepungtapioka) dankaragenansebagaimatriksertakadar penguat yang berbeda untuk mengetahui pengaruh kadar penguat terhadap dekomposisi panas biokomposit serta perludilakukanperhitunganenergiaktivasisertaujiproximate untukmengetahuipersentasekandunganmoisture volatile matter fixed carbon dankadarabupadapembakaranbiokompositbermatrikpatidankaragenandengandantanpapenambahanpenguatnanoclay. Keywords thermal decomposition biocomposites starch carrageenan nanoclay The use of nanoparticles as additives to improve material performance has attracted attention and interest in the last decade. This study examines the making of plastics that can be decomposed by bacteria or other decomposers so as to be environmentally friendly (bioplastic). Making this bioplastic utilize starch (tapioca starch) and carrageenan as based material and glycerin and water as plasticizer and nanoclay as reinforcement.This study aims to determine the characteristic addition of nanoclay to decrease (degradation) of the mass and to determine the characteristics of the addition of nanoclay rate of thermal reduction bioplastic in starch matrix and carrageenan. This research is an experimental research with one shot case study design that is an object that gets preliminary then tested. The analysis technique used in this research is descriptive statistic analysis. The results of the study are thermal degradation of starch and carrageenan bioplastic with variation of 0% nanoclay (0.00 g) 2.5% (0.025 g) 5% (0.05 g) 7.5% (0.075 g ) and 10% (0.10 g) divided into 5 decomposition stages during the combustion process between room temperature to 1000 C. Beginning with the first stage of degradation of water content the second stage is the degradation of volatile content the third stage is charcoal transition process the fourth stage is the degradation of the charcoal content and the fifth stage is the degradation of the residual content of charcoal surrounded by slowly burning ash. The addition of 10% nanoclay of thermogravimetric test result shows high thermal resistance due to nanoclay can decrease thermal degradation rate by leaving more mass which can increase the heat resistance of biocomposite due to exfoliate and immiscible structure in biocomposite. Based on the result of the research it is suggested that further research is done with the variation of starch concentration (tapioca starch) and carrageenan as different matrix and reinforcement level to know the influence of reinforcement level to biocompositethermal decomposition and to calculate the activation energy and proximate test to know the percentage moisture content volatile matter fixed carbon and ash content on the biocompositeburning starch and carrageenan with and without the addition of a nanoclayreinforcement.
