Keywords Internet resources mobile phone writing ability writing process The use of mobile phone has been considered as one of the tools that can help the students in learning English. The integration of this tool combined with an appropriate approach brings the students to acquire the writing skill successfully. The purpose of this study is to verify one major research questions whether the students who are given combination of process approach and internet resources through mobile phone have better writing ability than those who are given process approach without internet resources through mobile phone. Employing a quasi-experimental research with pretest and posttest design the researcher involved a control and an experimental group. The accessible population of this study was the tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Barabai in the academic year of 2017/2018. There were 63 students involved in this present study who belonged to two different majors. Class X B Tata Busana which consisted of 28 students was randomly assigned as the experimental group and the other class X Akuntansi dan Keuangan Lembaga which consisted of 35 students served as the control group. Prior to the treatment both groups were pretested. The scores obtained from this test were recorded and served as the representation of their writing achievement before the treatment. The treatment was then applied in which the experimental group was taught with the combination of process approach and internet resources through mobile phone while the control group was taught using process approach without internet resources through mobile phone. Five meetings were allocated to the treatment starting from November to December 2017. At the end the subjects were given a writing test to write a descriptive essay and the data were used to answer the research questions. After that the collected data were statistically computed by using Mann-Whitney U test to find if there was any significant difference on the scores between the control and the experimental groups. The results showed that the students who were given the combination of process approach and internet resources through mobile phone had better writing ability than the students who were not given the combination of process approach and internet resources through mobile phone as shown by p-value .001 that was smaller than the .05 level of significance. It was established empirically that the combination of process approach affected the students writing ability positively. The major implications of these findings for EFL teaching are (1) the use of process approach during the writing activities and by the assistance of internet resources through mobile phone particularly at planning writing revising and editing stages was more effective in facilitating students writing ability. (2) the ii use of internet resources through mobile phone in the classroom needs much effort from the teacher as well as the students responsibility and their discipline. Finally due to some limitation encountered in this present study a replication of the study further related studies are encouraged to be carried out so that more conclusive statements and more specified results can be obtained.
