iii ABSTRACT Rosyidah Latifatur. 2018. Comprehensian Reading Skill Based on PIRLS for 4th Grader Student of Elementary School at Cluster 3 Perak Sub District Jombang District. Bachelor Thesis - Primary School Teacher Education Department of Preschool and Primary School Education Faculty Of Education State University of Malang. Advisors (I) Dr. Muhana Gipayana M.Pd (II) Drs. Dimyati M.Pd. Keywords Reading Skills Reading Comprehension Understanding Criteria PIRLS. In 2011 it was known that the reading ability of fourth graders placed Indonesia at the 45 th rank of 48 participating countries with a score of 428 below the average score of 500. This condition is clearly apprehensive because reading skills are the basis for acquiring students knowledge skills and formation. The low reading ability of students in Indonesia can be caused by many factors. Selection of reading material is also one of the factors causing low reading ability of students. This study aimed to describe the reading comprehension skills of the fourth grade students State School Group 3 Perak district of Jombang based on criteria PIRLS. This research was conducted in fourth grade of Sukorejo State Elementary School 1 Sukorejo State Elementary School 5 Cangkring State Elementary School 1 Cangkring State Elementary School 2 Elementary School of Islam Al Munawir Plosogenuk State Elementary School 1 and Plosogenuk State Elementary School 2. This research uses descriptive quantitative research design. The research data in the form of the results of the fourth grade students skills in understanding the content based on criteria PIRLS reading. Data collection was performed using purposive sampling technique. Target of this research is devoted to class IV. This is based on international research on reading comprehension namely PIRLS. Criteria for the level of understanding of instrument use criteria PIRLS level of understanding. Criteria understanding based on PIRLS is divided into four levels namely (1) The level of understanding is low (Low) (2) The level of understanding of the medium (Intermediate) (3) Level of understanding (High) (3) The level of understanding is perfect (Advance). This study developed a question of two text based indicators PIRLS question. The text entitled Charlotte The brave Man . The average reading comprehension skills based on PIRLS in each category of questions are (1) SDN Sukorejo 5 with low question category obtained result 73.3 intermediate got result 62 7 high got result 45 0 and advance got result 40 0. (2) SDN Sukorejo 1 with low question category got result 87 7 intermediate got result 65 2 high got result 28 7 and advance got result 21 0. (3) SDN Cangkring 1 with low question category obtained result 77 8 intermediate got result 73 3 high got result 32 9 and advance got result 45 1. (4) SDN Cangkring 2 with low question category got 97 3 result intermediate got iv result 74 4 and high got result 56 0 and advance got result 58 7. (5) SDI Al Munawir with low question category obtained 81 0 result intermediate got result 71 4 high got result 34 4 and advance got result 35 7. (6) SDN Plosogenuk 1 with low question category obtained result 82 1 intermediate got result 75 8 high got result 52 7 advance got result 58 9. (7) SDN Plosogenuk 2 with low question category obtained 76 2 result intermediate got result 62 9 high got result 35 2 and advance got result 26 2. The average reading skill of students based on PIRLS are (1) SDN Sukorejo 5 that is equal to 55 9 in enough category (2) SDN Sukorejo 1 that is equal to 51 4 in enough category (3) SDN Cangkring 1 that is 58 0 in enough category (2) SDN Cangkring 2 that is equal to 70 9 in good category (5) SDI Al Munawir that is equal to 55 8 in enough category (6) SDN Plosogenuk 1 that is equal to 68 5 in good category and (7) SDN Plosogenuk 2 that is equal to 51 84 in enough category. From the results of the research above suggestions that can be given that is (1) for teachers it is advisable to use PIRLS taxonomy in developing questions when conducting tests especially on reading comprehension skills (2) for schools can hold special activities literasi that can be implemented once in one week (3) for the researcher can develop the method or design the special readings of elementary school students so that reading activity becomes fun is not boring for elementary students and (4) for other researchers can develop research not only in class IV SD and also on other linguistic aspects such as writing speaking and listening.
