Keyword on-screen reading from videos reading comprehension gender In this digital era the urgency of technology integration is one way to engage students more to the lesson. This present study aimed to investigate the impact of on-screen reading from videos on students reading comprehension across female and male students. By providing alternative reading medium such as screen text facilitated by videos is expected to gain students motivation and improve their reading comprehension. The design of this research was quasi-experimental with factorial design. There were three instruments were used in this study they were pre-test posttest and interview guide. Interiew guide was used to find out experimental group opinion after the treatment. This study involved 57 tenth graders from two computer technology major classes of SMKN 1 Tapin Selatan South Kalimantan Province. The experimental group was taught using on-screen reading from videos while the control group was taught using printed text reading. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 24.0 to test the hypotheses at .05 level of significance. This study also aimed to investigate the interaction between reading medium and students gender. The result of statistical analysis showed that there was significant difference in the reading comprehension between the students taught by using onscreen reading of videos and those taught by using printed-text reading indicated by p value of .000. It was also found that there was no significant difference in the reading comprehension across gender indicated by p value of .386. Furthermore there was no interaction between reading medium and students gender as indicated by p value of .252. Based on interview the experimental group had positive opinions about the implementation of on-screen reading from videos. The findings of this study showed that students taught by using on-screen reading outperformed than students taught by using printed text reading. Therefore it can be concluded that on-screen reading of videos is a promising alternative reading medium to help students to comprehend English texts and improve their reading comprehension in EFL context. Recommendation for the future researchers are recommended to conduct similar research with different type of texts with bigger sample size. It is expected to show a positive significant impact of screen reading from videos on male students.
