There is a rapidly-growing interest in detecting lies for forensic purposes (Burgoon Blair Qin Nunamaker 2003 Choudhury 2014 DePaulo Lindsay Malonc Muhlenbruck Chartlon Cooper 2003 Ettinger Jehiel 2009 Galasinsiki 2000 Toma 2012 Vrij 2000) yet some gaps still remain which require further investigation. In relation to this this research addresses the gap within previous studies. The primary objectives of this study are (1) How linguistic deception discourse is constructed in Bill Clinton and Holly Bobo Cases (2) How is the comparison of linguistic deception discourse in Bill Clinton and Holly Bobo case in relation to their deception strategy This study attempts to investigate the usage of linguistic deception cues in Bill Clinton and Holly Bobo murderer case by employing qualitative method. The concordance is built up by Antconc as corpus of deception containing the data of deception from Bill Clinton and Holly Bobo cases. The data was expounded by employing content based analysis and systemic functional linguistics covering ideational metafunction (material and mental process) and interpersonal metafunction (modality). Furthermore the prosodic features of deception cues were expounded by canvassing paralinguistic analysis. The parameter of deception cues in content based analysis projected the credibility of the cues both in Bill Clinton and Holly Bobo cases. The deceiver transmitting deception cues self-reference second/ third pronoun quality clarity negative words lacks of detail quantity reproduction image and relationship protecting behavior and relevance manipulation. The SFL and paralinguistic analysis verify the discourse of being criminalized and the issue of power relation within the courtroom in relation to the deceptive context. Additionally the speech latency and the pause shed the light of deceptive prosodic features. Moreover this study deliberately compared the strategy of deceiver in courtroom covering biased information search consisting of amount search selective search selective attention misremembering rationalization and biased interpretation. This research concluded the parameters of deception cues in content based analysis SFL and paralinguistic analysis are credible to detect deception discourse. This three elements successfully explained the discourse of deception and comparing their strategy to convince the judges in a courtroom. This study suggests for further research confirm the strategy of the discourse by conducting laboratory research to verify the way brain works when the strategy of deception is molded.
