Keywords tourism development Impact local community Tourism is one of sector that can be relied on as an increase in foreign exchange of a country outside oil gas and taxes. The tourism sector is also able to influence the multiplier effect. The multiplier effect is an impact caused by activities in certain fields both positive and negative so that it can moves activities in other fields because of the direct and indirect linkages that ultimately encourage development activities. Tourism development will be relevant if it is carried out in accordance with the potential of the region which is expected to have a good influence on improving the welfare of the community especially the local community and able to encourage the development of various other sectors both economic social and cultural. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the development of Red Island tourism on the welfare of the surrounding community. The research method used is descriptive research method. This study uses BKKBN indicators to determine the level of welfare of the community around the Pulau Merah which includes physical socio-cultural and economic aspects. The data used from this study are primary data and secondary data. Primary data is obtained directly from related sources using interview guidelines and questionnaires. While secondary data is obtained from relevant agencies. This research was conducted in the Pulau Merah tourist area precisely in Pancer Hamlet Sumberagung Village Pesanggaran Sub-District Banyuwangi Regency. The analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative. The results showed that the tourism development of Pulau Merah had a positive and negative impact on the surrounding community both in terms of physical socio-cultural and economic aspects. The results showed that the impact of the development of Pulau Merah tourism was largely a positive impact. The results also showed that the development of Pulau Merah tourism was able to improve the welfare of the surrounding community especially in Pancer Hamlet Sumberagung Village Pesanggaran Sub-District Banyuwangi Regency. Thus the development of Pulau Merah Tourism is able to make the lives of the surrounding communities better.
